Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies and the development of democratic institutions world-wide.

DRI has worked in partnership with Tunisian civil society organisations (CSOs) and political actors since the launching of its programme in Tunisia in February 2011.

DRI’s programme currently works on four main themes:

  • Implementation of the constitution and other political-legal reforms: providing expertise to members of the National Constituent Assembly and supporting CSO advocacy
  • Elections and electoral reform: Tailor-made support to two major domestic observation platforms in preparation of the parliamentary and presidential elections in 2014 and support to a CSO advocacy platform for the electoral framework
  • Regional outreach on the constitution and local democracy
  • Capacity-building on advocacy for reforms

The programme consists of two projects: “Supporting Civil Society Organisations and Political Actors in Elections and Institutional Reforms to Strengthen the Democratic Process in Tunisia (ENPI/2013/318-431)”, funded by the European Union and the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and “Accompanying Tunisia’s Democratic Transition III (631120, No. 81024849)”, funded by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. DRI’s work in Tunisia is implemented by seven local staff and led by an international Country Director. DRI is currently aiming to replace its outgoing Country Director, from October 2014.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Country Director will manage DRI’s office and programme in Tunisia. In particular, he/she will be responsible for the following:

  • Management of DRI’s office in Tunis and of the implementation of the programme, as well as conducting field visits outside of Tunis, as required;
  • Detailed planning and implementation of programme activities, in conjunction with DRI HQ;
  • Representing DRI in Tunisia;
  • Communication and coordination between DRI and key interlocutors, such as CSO representatives, political actors, the government, the media and international organisations;
  • Acquisition of new project funding, in co-operation with DRI HQ;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
