CONSULTANT FOR A STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON SRHR

ACCESS IN THE MENA REGION

 

RAWSA MENA, a network hosted by the Groupe Tawhida Ben Cheikh as its legal manager in Tunisia, is recruiting a consultant for a study on the impact of Covid-19 on SRHR access in the MENA region.

 

CONTEXT

 

RAWSA Network in North Africa and Middle East region brings together human rights organizations and feminist activists for a regional advocacy in support of the right to safe abortion. 

The RAWSA Network, created in May 2019, believes that every woman has the right to decide on her body and have access to Sexual and Reproductive services without being prosecuted and/or imprisoned.

Our objective is to Limit restrictive policies related to sexual and reproductive rights including those on abortion – because they are in contradiction with the principles of Human Rights. We wish to remove discriminatory barriers to access to safe reproductive health service.

Our project is based on 3 pillars: 

  • Develop then strengthen a regional network for the exchange of experience and of good practices between associations and activists defending the sexual and reproductive rights;
  • Develop advocacy for promoting the legal environment and social support for the right to safe abortion in the MENA region;
  • Develop research to provide information showing the impact on women’s health and right of unsafe abortion. 

 

In these activitie’s framework, the RAWSA MENA Network is recruiting a consultant for a report on the impact of Covid-19 on SRHR access in the MENA region.

 

MISSION DESCRIPTION

The consultant will write a report on the Covid-19 impact on access to SRHR in the MENA region from 2020 to August, 31 2021.

The objective is to highlight the difficulties of access to SRHR in the region because of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

More specifically, the consultant will show which are the barriers to access to SRHR and safe abortion services in the different countries of the region. Then he or she will show how the Covid-19 pandemic affects this access and how the countries and governments reacted to provide and/or to reestablish SRHR services. The consultant will focus on every country of the region (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Oman, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Sudan), compare and analyze the differences or the similarities.

 

The consultant will work in close collaboration with the RAWSA MENA project team and will be helped by the focal points to get field informations.

 

CONSULTANT EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

 

 

 

  • Fluency in Languages: Arabic & English and/or French.

 

DELIVERABLES:

 

  • A technical offer composed by the CV, a description of the methodology used to answer to the consultation objective and a plan of the report;

 

  • The complete report on the impact of Covid-19 on SRHR access in the MENA region;
  • An abstract or summary of the main analyses of the report.

Until 25/07/2021: Application period
26/07/2021 to 01/08/2021: Consultant selection and contractualisation
02/08/2021 to 08/08/2021: Revision and Validation of the methodology and the plan of the report
09/08/2021 to 10/09/2021: Consultation – report writing
13/09/2021 to 17/09/2021: Revision and Validation of the report

 

Critères d'éligibilité

  • At least a master’s degree in human sciences, sociology, psychology, or other relevant specialties;
  • Strong knowledge of the MENA region;
  • Researcher in the fields of women’s rights, Sexual and Reproductive Rights (SSR) and safe abortion;
  • Good inter-personal communication skills and ability to mobilize around the themes of SSR and in particular safe abortion;
  • Excellent writing skills in at least one of the languages ​​listed below;
  • Experience in consultation for civil society organizations;
  • Strong network and contacts in the region working on SRHR;
