Objective

The objective of the assignment is to provide a translation service from English to Arabic.

Background and context

For the moment, the most appropriate means of communicating about climate change in some countries and regions are very limited.

Within the framework of implementation of the project “Enabling a new conversation across the Arabic speaking worlds (GCCNP)” that aims are to: enable national level organizations in Tunisia to design and test the most effective language and narratives for communicating climate change with their priority audiences; produce Insights into narratives across the Arab world.

The goal of this project is to change the discourse on climate change in the Arab world to strengthen public action against climate change; to build capacity for communication of climate change in other selected countries in the region and to disseminate findings for use by others globally.

The project is funded by KR foundation, and implemented in partnership between Climate Outreach, Climate Action Network International CAN-I, Climate Action Network Arab World CANAW and Earth Hour Tunisia Association (EHTA); began in April 2019 and will be finishing by the end of April 2021.

Firstly, it was executed in Tunisia by EHTA in partnership with 9 other associations in different region of Tunisia. And it results in a report (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vSXUXGwgMIJa0HyZ1z2Tbk9ujoT1rqyf/view) detailing the used mythology and giving hypothesis on the successful languages to use in communicating Climate Change to different categories of people in Tunisia.

After the edition of 3 reports for each country (Tunisia, Mauritania and Egypt), a final report will be launched soon to give a summary of the whole work in these countries as representatives of the Mena region.

We are seeking a skilled translator with an understanding of climate change and/or social science to translate our Final report from English to Arabic while ensuring that no meaning is lost through translation.

Scope of work

The translator will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

Translation:

• Written translation of the Report (composed of 80-90 pages) from English to Arabic,
• Proofread and edit of the Report
• All texts, including texts contained in figures, boxes, captions, sources and covers requires translation and proofreading
• Ensure that the translation is written with correct grammar and spelling

Sharing:

• Share draft translation with Earth Hour Tunisia that will share with its international partners

Changes according to feedbacks and opinion of partners:

• Incorporate suggested changes into the translation. The translator should be prepared for 2 or 3 rounds of feedback and edits from partners in the project.
• Being able to receive comments and feedback and giving time to meet with the person who will be following up the translation work.

Sharing the last version :

• Ensure high quality and accuracy of the entire document before submitting it to Earth Hour Tunisia and its international partners
• Complete the work within the agreed timeline and submit the final translation via email to Earth Hour Tunisia

• Payment will be made in Tunisian dinar
• The rate per page shall be inclusive of all associated costs
