Position Title: Communications Specialist

Position Classification: Fixed Term – (Full Time), Tunisian, and CCN, and will be based in Tunis, Tunisia.

Project Overview: The USAID Power Tunisia activity seeks to advance self-reliance in Tunisia by strengthening the country’s institutional capacity to manage, operate, and maintain a modern, diversified and financially sound electricity system. The activity has three core objectives: 

  • Strengthening the energy sector’s performance
  • Diversifying and securing energy supply
  • Promoting advanced technology pilots and partnerships

 

Position Overview: The Communications Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating all internal and external project communications and online presence. This includes everything from written and printed materials to the project’s website and social media sites.

 

Detailed Responsibilities: The Communications Specialist shall perform the following general functions:

  • Lead in enforcing adherence to the Branding & Marking Plan and general compliance with USAID expressed standards and branding;
  • Develop and oversee delivery of a Power Tunisia Communications Strategy that defines how the Activity will work to ensure interventions are well publicized with USAID and other USG stakeholders as well as various Tunisian stakeholders
  • Develop external communications material (written and printed), from the design stage all the way to the distribution stage;
  • Identify success story topics and work with technical team members to develop written success stories
  • Support the writing and copy-editing of Activity reports or deliverables, ensuring they are well written and are branded according to the Branding & Marking guidelines.;
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of USAID communications and branding regulations as well as contract limitations, and inform/educate others on these requirements as necessary;
  • Manage the Activity’s social media presence via various social media sites and the Activity’s own website (as permitted by the client and contract, and according to regulations); and
  • Manage the organization and facilitation of all PT events (both in-person and remote) including workshops, conferences, trainings, and external meetings;
  • Support PT team and USAID with preparatory materials for all necessary events;
  • Engage and manage all media correspondence for all events as well as any press releases both online and paper based;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisor and Reporting Responsibilities: For all routine responsibilities and duties, either directly or indirectly related to the Position description, the Employee shall report directly to, and be supervised by the position of the PMO Lead. The Employee’s Supervisor may change from time to time on an ad hoc or temporary basis depending on the needs of the Project.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English Language, or relevant field
  • Minimum of 5 years in Communications work, preferably within international development or similar context
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional writing and verbal skills and ability to write, communicate, and prepare engagement materials fluently in English, French, and Arabic 
  • Experience organizing and implementing both in-person events and Zoom calls such as conferences, workshops, trainings, launch events, etc.  
  • Experience working with the media including coordinating participation of members of the media in events, developing press releases, etc. 
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to solve complex problems
  • Prior experience on USAID or donor-funded projects (preferred)
  • Experience working in similar context in North Africa/Middle East region
