Job Summary

Democracy International is seeking to hire a Communication Specialist for the Civil Society Activity in Tunisia. This position is open to Tunisian nationals. The Communication Specialist will be responsible for leading and implementing day-to-day communications and outreach efforts.

The Civil Society Activity aims to empower Tunisian citizens to act and advocate for specific issues and effect change at the local, regional, and national level in advancing Tunisia’s development and build the legitimacy and sustainability of the civil society sector.

 

Responsibilities

 The tasks to be completed under this SOW are as follows: 

  • Lead and manage communications and outreach work related to program design, implementation, and management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Activity to create content for internal and external audiences, including developing and managing social media content and engagement (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Develop timely material to promote DI activities for distribution on social media, website, newsletters, and other external modes of communication, in collaboration with CSA partner, Magenta Consulting.
  • Implementing the Activity’s social media strategy, including regularly updating Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other accounts.
  • Use analytics and reporting to determine user engagement on the Activity’s social media accounts.
  • Develop newsletters to share with local, national, and international partners/stakeholders.
  • Providing research, analysis, drafting, and other support for thought leadership pieces (e.g., journal articles, op-eds, white papers) produced by DI.
  • Contribute to and manage the DI activity’s online presence, implementing regular and creative campaigns that are timed and synchronized with events or activities.
  • Track the Activity’s online presence, including media mentions of DI, the Activity, its partners, or USAID, using analytics or other resources.
  • Organize and manage DI outreach events, including events related to specific activities and the overall project.
  • Other duties as assigned to support DI communications and outreach efforts.

 

Required Qualifications, Skills, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Communications, Media, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in designing and leading communications and outreach campaigns.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with developing content for and monitoring impact across social media platforms
  • Skills in graphic design or web design.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English highly desired. 
  • Fluency in French and Arabic, and developing social media campaigns in Arabic, French and English, are required.
  • Experience developing outreach and communications targeting marginalized communities strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with international organizations or international donors on media/social media outreach strongly preferred.

Reporting Requirements

The Communication Specialist will report to the Program Director.
