The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. UNV works with United Nations partners, governments and civil society to mobilize volunteers and promote volunteerism as a powerful means to achieve sustainable development. The UNV Multi-Country Field Unit (MCFU) for the Maghreb covers Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.
In Tunisia, UNV is implementing, with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland, an innovative initiative promoting youth professional integration and disability inclusion through volunteerism. Within the framework of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY2026), SDC and UNV seek to strengthen the visibility of young volunteers’ contributions while capturing evidence, lessons learned and good practices emerging from the SDC-UNV partnership. The UN Associate Volunteer will contribute to both communication and knowledge management efforts supporting this strategic initiative. This assignment is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia. It also contributes to the implementation of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY2026) by documenting, promoting and amplifying the contributions of young UN Volunteers supported through the SDC-UNV initiative.
Under the direct supervision of the Multi-Country Coordinator, UNV Multi-Country Field Unit for the Maghreb, and in close collaboration with young volunteers supported by SDC under the above captioned initiative, UN partners and UNV communication focal points, the UN Associate Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: A. Support strategic communications and visibility • Contribute to the collection of stories, testimonials and human-interest content illustrating the contribution of young volunteers supported by SDC in Tunisia. • Support the preparation of communication products with a focus on social media content including social media cards, advocacy reels, inspiring volunteer success story videos, etc. featuring young UN Volunteers supported by SDC. • Support the implementation of potential SDC-UNV joint activities related to the International Volunteer Day and the International Volunteer Year (IVY2026). • Maintain a repository of communication assets, photos and multimedia materials produced during the volunteering assignment. • Support other visibility initiatives with Swiss Cooperation and UN host agencies. B. Support monitoring, learning and knowledge management • Coordinate the collection and organization of qualitative and quantitative information related to the SDC-UNV initiative. • Compile evidence, good practices, innovations and lessons learned from implementation. • Conduct interviews with volunteers as well as with SDC and UN partners. • Support the analysis of results and emerging trends. • Support the drafting of a knowledge product and a learning brief. C. Support capitalization of the SDC-UNV initiative • Contribute to the preparation of a comprehensive capitalization document highlighting: o achievements; o lessons learned; o good practices; o innovation; o recommendations for future programming; o contribution of volunteerism to youth employability and disability inclusion. • Assist in preparing related presentations and dissemination materials. Expected Deliverables By the end of the assignment, the volunteer is expected to contribute to: • A repository of communication products and success stories of young UN Volunteers supported by the SDC-UNV initiative. • A comprehensive capitalization document on the SDC-UNV initiative on youth employability and disability inclusion through volunteerism. • Increased visibility of IVY2026 activities and young volunteers’ contributions.

Volunteerism is understood as a wide range of activities undertaken of free will, for the general public good, for which monetary reward is not the principal motivating factor.
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Tunis. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions. Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers The contract lasts for the period indicated above. There is no expectation of renewal of the assignment unless indicated otherwise. Where applicable, travel to the duty station will be provided if the duty station is beyond commuting distance from the place of recruitment. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is paid on a monthly basis to cover accommodation, utilities and basic living expenses. The Conditions of Service include life, health and permanent disability insurance (including health insurance coverage for up to three eligible dependents), as well as a resettlement allowance upon satisfactory completion of the assignment and, where applicable, final repatriation entitlements. Entitlements Before the Assignment • Entry lump sum: USD 350 • Relocation allowance: USD 175 at the beginning and USD 175 at the end of the assignment, provided the duty station is beyond commuting distance from the place of recruitment, in accordance with UNV eligibility criteria. During the Assignment • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): TND 1,879.74 • Learning and career development opportunities through the UNV learning and professional development platform • Annual leave: 2.5 days per month • Comprehensive insurance coverage, including health, life and malicious acts insurance for the UN Volunteer, as well as health insurance for up to three eligible dependents, in accordance with the applicable UNV Conditions of Service Upon Successful Completion of the Assignment • End-of-assignment resettlement allowance: USD 120 per month of completed service, payable upon satisfactory completion of the assignment.
