Background  

Libya Economic Acceleration Project (LEAP) is a four-year USAID-funded project implemented by Chemonics International in the south of Libya. The goal of LEAP is to promote economic growth and resilience in southern Libya. As part of project activities, LEAP provides technical assistance to promote the growth and efficiency of micro-, small, and medium enterprises with the aim of increasing sales and creating new jobs. 

 

Position description 

The communications associate will support the implementation of LEAP’s communication strategy for all project activities. S/He will primarily work on increasing LEAP’s social media presence and expanding its content to promote for project activities according to the project workplan and USAID branding strategy and marking plan. S/He will be responsible for a video project in collaboration with a Libyan video production company and LEAP business partners. The associate will also support LEAP in overseeing comms branding for field activities and identifying and drafting success stories that promote economic growth in Southern Libya.

 

Reporting 

The Communications Associate reports to the Senior Communications Specialist.  

 

Scope of Work: 

Social media Management:

  • Plan and execute strategies to expand LEAP’s social media presence and awareness about USAID’s economic growth activities in Southern Libya 
  • Manage LEAP’s social media presence and timely engage with LEAP’s followers on Facebook. 
  • Develop engaging social media content to showcase project impact, testimonials and success stories by identifying and prioritizing key project successes. 
  • Design visuals and infographics that showcase LEAP’s activities
  • Track and analyze effectiveness of social media strategy through regular analytics reporting to USAID.

Video Project:

  • Oversee the development of a video campaign that promotes economic growth in the South by liaising with a Libyan video production company. The campaign’s duration is 12 months and will focus on raising the visibility of LEAP programming, and USAID presence and impact, primarily on social media through video storytelling and featuring 12 LEAP beneficiaries from Southern Libya. 
  • The communications associate will liaise with the video production company and coordinate the video production process, review and approve the submitted video content, script, sub-titles and branding. S/He will identify potential LEAP business partners to be featured and coordinate the video production process.

Communication Deliverables to USAID:

  • Support in drafting success stories, weekly and quarterly reports to USAID and coms ad hoc requests from USAID.
  • Maintain a database of videos and photographs consistent with USAID and Chemonics corporate photography guidance and consent policy.  

 

Qualifications and Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required 
  • Knowledge of communications and outreach for international donor funded programs, with experience in economic growth programming, USAID projects preferred, or media campaign in Southern Libya
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience required, with at least two years of direct work experience in communications, social media community management, graphic design, outreach, journalism, or a related field 
  • Fluency in English and Arabic and ability to write compelling Facebook captions, short articles for newsletters or success story blurbs in both languages.
  • Prior experience managing a Facebook page and familiarity with Meta business suit tools and Facebook KPI metrics definitions
  • Proficient user of Canva 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a culturally diverse staff  
  • High level of autonomy, self-motivation and creativity
  • Previous experience leading video production process or working with media production companies is an advantage
  • Familiarity with graphic design, video production and photography are an advantage

 

LEVEL OF EFFORT AND PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE

 

This position is a 17-month assignment, on a full-time basis. The position’s expected start date is December 1st, 2024

 

LOCATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT

 

The position is open to Tunisian and Libyan nationals and can be based in Tunis, Tripoli or Sebha with potential travel to Southern Libya.
