About Tawasol
Tawasol is a 24-month program which aims to create a more inclusive Tunisian society for marginalized racial and ethnic communities and underrepresented and vulnerable groups by countering discrimination and promoting greater diversity in media coverage. This will be accomplished through three key objectives:
1) Counter mis- and disinformation as well as negative rhetoric targeting marginalized racial and ethnic communities, as well as refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants;
2) Strengthen the capacity of independent media outlets to investigate and develop fact-based, quality reporting on rights issues impacting marginalized racial and ethnic communities and underrepresented groups; and,
3) Support content development and community-based journalism by underrepresented and vulnerable communities on rights-related issues of community concern.

About the Bootcamp
Under Tawasol’s objective 2, Internews will conduct a tailored capacity building bootcamp that will focus on the skills needed by independent media outlets to raise public awareness and advocate for fact-based, high-quality reporting on issues affecting marginalized racial and ethnic communities and underrepresented groups, especially black Tunisians and Sub-Saharan migrants. Fact-checking, reporting on rights issues affecting marginalized communities, gender-sensitive reporting, and avoiding stereotypes will be among the topics covered.
The bootcamp will be an intensive, customized, 4-day capacity building activity for fact-based, quality reporting on rights issues impacting the target communities, as well as provide participants with ongoing mentorship. Media outlets will be invited to participate, and each media outlet will design a new media content production (reports, radio, public debates, etc.) related to marginalized communities. At the end of the bootcamp, participants will pitch their ideas. Grants will be awarded to up to 8 selected ideas. 5 bootcamps are projected to be held, and they will take place in Greater Tunis, Sfax, and the southern regions of Tunisia.
About the participants:
This bootcamp is for independent media outlets and journalists who are passionate about promoting diversity, countering misinformation, and advocating for fact-based reporting on marginalized communities, especially black Tunisians and Sub-Saharan migrants. We also encourage applications from individuals committed to creating positive change through media.
