Context: 

UN Women recognizes the youth engagement and their meaningful participation as central to the human rights-based approach to advocacy. The youth engagement and advocacy are also part of the process of empowering young people as rights-holders to demand their rights by creating an environment where they can both voice their concerns, ideas, and recommendations and be heard by decision-makers and duty-bearers. 

the importance of the inclusion and active participation of young people in decision-making and public life, UN Women launched a youth and gender equality strategy in 2017 that seeks to empower young women and young men as partners in achieving gender  equality, and that aims to ‘engender’ the  youth movement and ‘enyouth’ the women’s movement. This strategy was being implemented through the UN Women Youth Plan of Action (YPoA) 2019–2021. 

Aware the significance of amplifying Tunisian youth voices and acknowledging the necessity of engaging youth for promoting Gender 

equality, assisting with legislative reforms, and magnifying their visions, UN Women Tunisia is preparing its Youth and Gender equality strategy aligned with its strategic note to create a platform for the new generations to Learn, Earn, Lead and Transform. 

Engaging Youth Gender Advocates: 

UN Women Tunisia will select 10 youth from Tunisia who will translate youth needs in UN Women’s Tunisia youth strategy in a human centered design approach. The selected participants will contribute to the strategy by: 

  • Supporting the elaboration of UN Women Tunisia strategy on Youth& Gender equality and working closely with UN Women team on the engagement of Youth
  • Bringing energy, creativity and critical thinking to the elaboration of the strategy
  • Becoming the next generation of gender equality advocates contributing to a stronger
  • Paticipating in a design thinking reflexion workshop on the needs of youth in the UN Women strategy 

UN Women will support the selected youth by: 

  • Amplifying their voice, agency and leadership at the national level.
  • Building their capacity around gender equality and the Tunisia office’s works main priorities in the areas of:

Governance and women’s political participation 

Women’s economic empowerment 

Ending violence against women

Women, Peace and Security

  • Having periodic meetings with UN Women colleagues.
  • Creating networking opportunities with national stakeholders, civil society, and donors

Process of the selection and responsibilities : 

20 participants will be selected to participate in a designathon & a design thinking workshop on June 18th 2023 at United Nations office in Tunisia. The workshop will be dedicated to hearing the voices and understanding the concerns of the youth the strategy is being designed for. 

Based on the workshop 10 participants will be selected to accompany the elaboration of the strategy and be present in 3 workshops with international technical and financial partners, local civil society actors, and United nations thematic group on youth. The selected youth will also present the strategy on International Youth day to UN Women Tunisia national and international stakeholders. 

Eligibility: 

To be eligible, applicants should meet the following criteria: 

  • Be the age of between 18 – 35 years.
  • Must be working on making a difference in their community.
  • Must be available for the design thinking workshop on 18& 19 June 2023.

UN Women will provide a letter of recognition of contribution at the presentation of the strategy.
