About the mission:

Working in over 30 countries, Islamic Relief Worldwide promotes sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities to eradicate poverty and illiteracy.

We also respond to disasters and emergencies, helping people in crisis.

Islamic Relief  (IR) provides support regardless of religion, ethnicity, or gender and without expecting anything in return. IR has been working in Tunisia since 2011, when we supported refugees fleeing violence in Libya as well as Tunisian host communities. Since registering our office in Tunisia in 2012, we have set up and managed camps on the Tunisian border and provided humanitarian services to over 15,000 people. As the camp was wound down, we helped refugees unable to return to Libya to build new lives in Tunisia.

Besides, supporting refugees, IR has implemented projects in health, wash water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food security, education – as well as schemes enabling poor families to earn a decent living. We also support local associations across the country through the implementation implement partnerships and capacity building programmes.

Currently, IR is focusing on the sector of Education in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

Tunisia Child Friendly Schools Project:

Tunisia Child Friendly Schools project is funded by IR partner offices in USA, CANADA & GERMANY. It targets 400 schools in the 26 Regional Directorates of Education and focuses on refurbishing the latrines of the targeted schools, improving the hygiene practices of school children and enhancing the extracurricular activities related to Hygiene, Environment and Reading.

Mission Purpose:

Islamic relief Tunisia seeks for 33 service providers to be based in 16 governorates, for a 6 months’ mission. The service providers will visit schools for monitoring and coordination of hygiene promotion activities as well as supporting social mobilization & program staff in implementing  project’s activities such as conducting hygiene promotion awareness session for boys and girls , animating health clubs in schools , kits distribution,  supervising pupils behavioral change  and reporting School Hygiene Promotion weekly activities

Key Working Relationships

Regular contact with project staff, to follow up on the implementation of Hygiene promotion activities along with school club creation (The service provider will have to travel to Tunis for quarterly meetings with the project team).

Scope and Authority 

  • Scope of the Role:

TCFS service providers oversee conducting hygiene sessions in schools and ensuring that the program meets Islamic Relief Quality Standards. WASH volunteers will provide support in the implementation, reporting and monitoring of WASH project’s activities.

Responsibilities for resources:

  • Conduct Hygiene Promotion activities in schools, promote effective use of latrines and safe water, and ensure regular follow up on Child Hygiene and Sanitation Training (CHAST) activities 
  • Support project staff during Hygiene and environment materials distribution, School cleaning campaigns events and knowledge attitude practice (Kap) survey
  • Prepare weekly report and share it with Project Staff.
  • Any additional responsibility assigned by Project Staff.

Key Accountabilities:

The mission holder is accountable for fulfilling his or her roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic relief core and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of his/her colleagues.

Results:

  • Ensure the implementation of the hygiene clubs activities 
  • Ensure the quality of the intervention through the development of health clubs
  • Facilitate the club’s animations within the target schools in coordination with education staff
  • Guarantee access to accurate and valid information in relation to the various components and expected results of the clubs activities
  • Ensure a better understanding of schools needs and dynamics at the local level.
  • Collect related beneficiary information in the targeted governorates
  • Conduct a case study per school in English and French

 

 Key Role and Responsibilities 

The service provider will receive instructions from Project Staff about his/ her assigned region with regular coordination and evaluation with the Hygiene Promotion Officer.

WORKING CONDTIONS:

Working conditions and duration:

  • Mission period: 6 months
  • It is a part time job
  • There will be a training, and induction before the beginning of the mission.
  • The mission will start from October.
  • The service providers will be recruited in the regions mentioned on the table above
  • The service providers are expected to spend almost 90% of their working time on the field.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

It is essential that the post holders show a good understanding of the Islamic Relief Core values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide vision and mission.

ESSENTIAL:

Education Qualification & Work Experience:

  • Minimum academic requirement: license in Animation, Wash, Education or any similar area.
  • Candidate must be resident in the region he/ she is applying in the 16 indicates governorates (essential): Kasserine, Kairouan, Gafsa, Sidi Bouzid, Mahdia, Sfax1, Sfax2, Tunis1, Tunis2, Ben Arous, Mannouba, Ariana, El-Kef, Zaghouan, Jandouba, Beja, Bizerte and Sousse
  • Solid knowledge of spoken and written Arabic and English 
  • Active in the civic engagement sector

Knowledge & Preferred Skills

  • Good knowledge of associative dynamics in the assigned region.
  • Good communication skills to establish relationships with schools in the region
  • Good interpersonal skills, organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and commitment to teamwork
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills
