Call for Applications: Craft Your Visual Narrative: Graphic Design and Storytelling Opportunity

Are you a passionate young creative or a student with a knack for graphic design? Do you have a deep interest in climate justice and a desire to contribute to meaningful change? We invite you to apply for an exciting opportunity to be part of the “Visualizing Climate Justice Stories through Sketchnoting” project.

Location: Tunis

About the Activity:

The “Visualizing Climate Justice Stories through Sketchnoting” is an initiative aimed at transforming written climate justice stories into compelling visual narratives. Through a series of interactive workshops led by an expert illustrator facilitator, selected participants will have the opportunity to create sketchnoted stories that highlight the impact of the Voices for Just Climate action (VCA) program as well as success and inspiring stories.

Hivos and Collectif Creatif are welcoming applications from interested applicants to join the “Visualizing Climate Justice Stories through Sketchnoting”. 

Why Participate?

• Enhance Your Skills: Learn and practice visual storytelling and sketchnoting techniques under professional guidance.
• Contribute to Climate Justice: Help amplify the voices of those leading local climate solutions and make their stories accessible to a broader audience.
• Interaction and peer learning: interacting  and meeting with VCA partners and get inspiration from their experiences with local communities. 
• Gain Recognition: Participants will receive certificates and have the opportunity to showcase their work in exhibitions or publications.

Selection Criteria:

• Age: Applicants should be young creatives or students (ideally members of organizations involved in climate action) aged between 20 and 32.
• Skills: Strong illustration skills with experience in graphic design or visual arts.
• Interest: Demonstrated interest in climate justice, environmental issues, or social justice.
• Commitment: Ability to commit to the entire duration from August to November 2024.

Application Process:

1. Submit Your Application: Send your portfolio, and your resume highlighting your interest on climate change related issues. 
2. Selection and Notification: Selected participants will be informed by the end of September, 15 – 2024.
3. Workshop Participation: Participate in interactive workshops in September and October 2024.

About the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) Program:

The Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) program is a global initiative implemented by Hivos, Akina Mama wa Afrika, Slum dwellers International, South South North, and WWF. The program aims to ensure that by 2025, local civil society and underrepresented groups take on a central role as creators, facilitators, and advocates of innovative climate solutions. It emphasizes the inclusion of marginalized voices and the development of rights-based, locally shaped climate responses.

By working with diverse civil society groups, the VCA program seeks to build broad societal support for these climate solutions, influence national and global policies, and shift financial flows toward sustainable and just practices. The program operates across multiple countries and regions, striving to bridge urban-rural, gender, and youth divides, and to amplify local voices in new and impactful ways.
