TRAINING CYCLE 

Capacity building for activists to advocate safe  abortion in the MENA region

As part of its project “Strengthening the RAWSA MENA network – Right to access to safe  abortion in the region” supported by the SAAF / IPPF, RAWSA MENA a regional network hosted  by the Tawhida Ben Cheikh Group in Tunisia, launches a training cycle for activists, journalists  and health professionals involved in defending the right to safe abortion. The objective is to  strengthen their capacities in order to build a strong advocacy for access to safe abortion in  the MENA region. 

20 participants from different countries in the region will be trained by regional and  international experts on issues of advocacy, communication, clarification of values for attitude  change (VCAT) on abortion and on the means to bring abortion out of illegality. Participants will also have the opportunity to interact with each other in order to share their  experience and discuss the specific situation in each country. 

The training cycle will take place during the months of October and November 2021. There  will be 4 training sessionsthat will take place online (ZOOM) in order to allow the participation  of activists throughout the MENA region and given the conditions sanitary facilities. Each  session will last around 4 hours on Friday afternoon.

  • 22nd Octobre 2021 – CLARIFICATION OF VALUES FOR ATTITUDE CHANGE ON  ABORTION 
  • 29th October 2021 – COMMUNICATION 
  • 5th November 2021 – ADVOCACY 
  • 12th November 2021 – HOW TO EXIT ABORTION FROM SOCIAL AND LEGAL  ILLEGALITY?

SESSIONS THEMATICS 

  • S1/ CLARIFICATION OF VALUES FOR ATTITUDE CHANGE ON ABORTION 
  • S2/COMMUNICATION: How to approach the issue of safe abortion in the MENA region? How to communicate on abortion issues when this topic is very sensitive? What are the terms to use or not to use? 
  • S3/ADVOCACY: What is advocacy? How is it built? How to develop advocacy on the right to safe abortion in the MENA region? 
  • S4/HOW TO EXIT ABORTION FROM SOCIAL AND LEGAL ILLEGALITY?

THE PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH: This training cycle is based on participatory pedagogy through  theoretical contributions and practical applications (games, debates, group work etc.). The  emphasis is on sharing experience and sharing best practices between participants.

  • A space for meetings and sharing of experiences
  • FREE training
  • A certificate of participation will be issued at the end of the training for candidates who have participated in the four training sessions.
APPLICATION CRITERIAS 

Be an activist and / or journalist and / or medical / paramedical staff in one of the countries  of the MENA region 

Committed to defending the right to safe abortion for all women 

Have experience in women’s rights and / or sexual and reproductive rights Have a strong motivation 

Make yourself available for the 4 training sessions 

Have good language skills (Arabic and/or English) 

Familiar with video conferencing software (in particular Zoom)

 

AFTER THIS TRAINING?

You will have the tools to develop advocacy for access to safe abortion  in the region. You will be a key member of the RAWSA MENA network and a reference person  on abortion access issues in your country and in the MENA region.
