Brief description:
MAWJOUDIN is an officially registered not-for-profit NGO that is based in Tunisia and works towards achieving equality, human rights, bodily rights and sexual rights for the LGBTQI+ community and other marginalized groups and individuals through advocacy, documentation, capacity building, awareness-raising, safe spaces and lobbying.
“The Mawjoudin Queer Film Festival” is an annual film festival in Tunisia celebrating the LGBT community. It began in 2018, as the first queer film festival in the country and all of North Africa. The focus is on queer identities, especially in people from the Global South. The festival conceives of itself as audacious; it deals more with the intersectional approach in the fight against gender-based discriminations and repression. Its unprecedented screening program rhymes with discoveries, stimulate reflection and aspire to illuminate basic notions that are blurred or even erroneous in the collective unconscious. The next edition of the festival will be in Mars 2020
The call for applications is now on, for Four categories, Films, Scenarios, Artworks and Panels
Benefits/funding/Cost: each category has its own benefit
Eligibility: the work needs to be related to the LGBTIQ+ cause

for films: Films must be directly related to the LGBTIQ+ cause

Films must be directed by people from the global South (The production does not have to be from the global South)
Films must show a majority of scenes happening in the global south, or inspired from the global south
Films can be short (30 minutes max), medium (between 30 and 60 minutes max) or long formats (minimum duration of 60 minutes)

for artworks: The call for applications covers all categories of art: photography, plastic art, choreography/dance, theatre, poetry/slam, drag shows, design/sewing.

The theme: Queer (Sexuality and Non-Conforming Gender Identities).
The call is for potential participants residing in Tunisia or abroad
A small fund is granted depending on the artwork and overall budget.

for scenarios: The scenario should focus on the Queer theme.

Format: short films For amateurs and people being trained in the film industry
Age limit 35 years
Must reside in Tunisia and be from the global South
Budget: 2000 euros
The selection of scenarios will be done by a jury of professionals and amateurs.
The first screenings of the film, entirely made will take place within the framework of the festival.

for panels: The panel should focus on The Queer theme.

The speaker should be from the global south.
The call is for potential participants residing in Tunisia or abroad
