The Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) was founded in 1993 as a regional NGO dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights. For over 20 years, CIHRS has played a unique and central role in identifying and responding to the challenges and needs of the human rights movement in the Middle East and North Africa, and in helping to shape its development. It has extensive experience in advocacy, research and training and maintains significant cooperation with UN bodies through its Geneva office. CIHRS has offices in Tunis, Cairo, Geneva, Brussels, CIHRS effectively engages and collaborates with a wide network of local partners, decision-makers and institutions addressing a growing range of advocacy targets across the world.

Position description:

We are looking for a Program Development Associate (PDA) to join our dynamic team at the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS). The PDA reports directly to the Deputy Executive Director and works closely with the Program Development Coordinator in Brussels and Fundraising Officer on grant writing, donor reporting, and fundraising. The PDA will also play a key role in monitoring and evaluating the output of CIHRS’s growing staff, ensuring that the full extent of CIHRS’s efforts are reflected in donor reports. This position requires flexibility and excellent communication skills. Outstanding writing, oral and organizational skills are essential. In addition, s/he must have the ability to generate, organize and manage priorities independently, and closely follow the activities and impacts of CIHRS staff across the globe.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal teams to find opportunities for grants from diverse donors
  • Draft proposals to donors meeting CIHRS’ staff and management needs and ambitions
  • Work with internal teams to evaluate the effectiveness of past programs
  • Effectively monitor and evaluate the work of CIHRS’s growing staff across multiple offices (the collection, management and classification of data is a critical part of the job)
  • Draft donor reports that accurately capture the range of CIHRS’s objectives, activities, and impacts
  • Develop presentations and supporting materials for donor meetings and fundraising events
  • Represent CIHRS in meetings with donors and networking events
  • Develop communications materials for donors such as newsletters, brochures, etc.
  • Managing and updating donors data base
  • Following-up and keeping tracking of fundraising initiatives, potential new donor partnership and funding opportunities.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Prior two years of experience in grant-writing, report writing and familiar with MENA region
  • Excellent writing, analytical and research skills
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong social skills and ability to work and interact well with a diverse range of interlocutors (CIHRS staff, donors, partners, government officials, etc.)
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Detail oriented
  • Native-Level English is required. Knowledge of Arabic and/or French will be considered as a major asset
