The British Council is offering a grant to one or more Tunisia-based organisations to support the delivery of Active Citizens within the context of the Strengthening Resilience Programme.
The organisations selected will be responsible for project managing and steering the Active Citizens programme in the communities of Grand Tunis, Kef, Kairouan,Sousse and/or Monastir.
As background, the ‘Strengthening Resilience in MENA II’ (SR2) programme aims to build young people’s resilience – their ability to “survive and thrive” whatever pressures and hazards they confront. It is funded by the European Union and delivered by a consortium led by the British Council. It began with a pilot in 2015 and its current phase will continue until 2021. It is under implementation in Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Jordan.
Active Citizens is a social leadership training program that promotes intercultural dialogue and community social development. It is a module for training and strengthening the organisational, communication and managerial capacities of young leaders who will be future community relays. The training module aims to increase participants’ capacity to mobilize their communities and enable them to develop their autonomy and sense of responsibility so that they become the bearers of change in their communities. Trained participants were invited to develop collective action projects that respond to the needs of their localities. The program has thus alternated periods of thematic and technical training, fieldwork, and experiments.
