BBC Media Action

BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries and fractured states. To achieve this, it partners with civil society, local media and governments to:

  • Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues
  • Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

BBC Media Action promotes development and human rights through three main thematic areas of health, governance and rights, and humanitarian and emergency preparedness.

BBC Media Action in Tunisia and Algeria

Since the end of 2011, BBC Media Action has been working in Tunisia, Libya and Algeria to support better public service programming in the media, particularly the public media. It pays great attention to serving all audiences with a content that helps them understand the challenges they face and engage in processes that affect their daily lives. A particular focus of these past years has been the youth audiences in all the countries we work in and specifically in the North Africa region.

With these objectives in mind, digital and social media have taken a central role and increasing our knowledge, management and use of these platforms has become core to our project development.

Purpose of the Job

The Social Media Content Producer is an essential member of the team seeking to provide innovative and engaging ways to produce content for BBC Media Action’s North Africa Projects. BBC Media Action is about to launch new social media content aimed at young Tunisians and the Social Media Content Producer will play a key role in creating content( videos, graphics, captions and photographs) aimed at informing and inspiring young audiences. He/she will work closely with the Programme Producer to integrate social media/ web content with TV outputs . He/she will uphold BBC social media editorial guidelines and help train staff, trainees and CSOs on social media skills.

The Social Media Content Producer will be tasked by Programme Producer , Project Managers and Country Director, although s/he will also be expected to be proactive in collecting and producing tailored content for the web as well as developing, implementing and monitoring social media strategies. Attention to detail is vital, as well as a can-do attitude and extremely strong relationship management and networking skills. The post is based in Tunis, where BBC Media Action’s North Africa operations are based.

Main Duties

  • Produce innovative and original content specially tailored for social media and digital platforms
  • Seek out relevant audio, visual and audio-visual content from the production team (and any other relevant partner sources) and package it for social media
  • Develop graphic look and feel of social media platforms in consultation with Programme team in consultation with Project Manager and Country Director
  • Organise live social media interaction at BBC Media Action events and filming
  • Coordinate promotion of BBC Media Action events and activities in social media under the direction of the senior project management team and Country Director
  • Work with BBC Media Action Research & Learning team to develop insightful social media research
  • Help ensure that BBC editorial values and guidelines for social media are upheld in North Africa projects
  • Maintain and develop existing platforms to maximise reach including Twitter, Apps, Instagram and Facebook
  • Look for new social media trends and recommend how learnings can be applied to BBC Media Action North Africa projects
  • Monitor the social media budget under the direction of the senior project management team and Country Director
  • Work with the CSO coordinator to integrate CSOs into the social media strategy and to support CSOs and CSO networks in developing engaging social media campaigns
  • Support on report writing on social media activity for project funders and other external audiences, working with project management and Research & Learning teams
  • Participate in information and knowledge sharing with other teams across BBC Media Action including the Editorial Development Team

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Excellent audio-visual content for digital and social media production skills
  • Excellent social media skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Tunisia Social Media Landscape
  • Experience of developing and implementing highly successful social media campaigns
  • Interest in learning about new trends in social media and communicating how insights can be applied to BBC Media Action projects in North Africa
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • English and Arabic fluency
  • Excellent attention to detail
