BBC Media Action
BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries and fractured states. To achieve this, it partners with civil society, local media and governments to:
- Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues
- Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure
BBC Media Action promotes development and human rights through three main thematic areas of health, governance and rights, and humanitarian and emergency preparedness.
BBC Media Action in North Africa
Since the end of 2011, BBC Media Action has been working in Tunisia, Algeria and Libya to support better public service programming in the media, particularly the public and independent media. It pays great attention to serving all audiences with a content that helps them understand the challenges they face and engage in processes that affect their daily lives. A particular focus of these past years has been the youth audiences in all the countries we work in and specifically in the North Africa region.
A significant share of our work focuses on capacity building and mentoring partners in Algeria. This work is based in Algeria, and in our newly-built training centre in Tunis.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Projects Manager Algeria& Tunisia, the Team Leader will use her/his extensive editorial expertise to oversee and review all radio, television, digital and mobile training & output. The post holder will ensure systems are in place to support all aspects of production, supporting every stage of project design from inception to post-production, and ensuring timely delivery of output. He/she will deliver editorial support and training to teams and partners as required. The Team Leader will also work with the project support team to organise and monitor project activities, reporting on projects internally and externally as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, implementation and management of coherent training and development programmes, in line with project(s) objectives in collaboration with the Training Coordinator and under supervision of Projects Manager.
- To ensure editorial integrity of media training & outputs for Media Action in Algeria, ensuring timeliness and raising and maintaining editorial and technical quality across all programme content for radio, television, social media, and other platforms as relevant.
- Support professional development of all staff, including strengthening technical skills and editorial decision-making of the BBC Media Action production teams to deliver outstanding content.
- Ensure teams fully comply with BBC Editorial guidelines and values. Work with the Projects Manager to manage any editorial issues that may arise.
- Manage heads of different production teams to coordinate and creatively influence concept development and planning for existing outputs and new productions. Review trainers/consultants’ reports within agreed timelines and communicate them appropriately to partners.
- Along with members of the senior management team and the Projects Manager, ensure that BBC Health and Safety guidelines are observed on all productions, staff are trained and briefed to manage risk in a highly challenging environment, and support is provided to others to take appropriate measures to minimize exposure to perceived risks.
- Advise and support the Projects Manager and senior staff to manage risk related to training, consultancy & production on all the projects.
- Under supervision of Projects Manager,negotiate with donors, partners, NGOs and government officials on behalf of BBC Media Action as required.
- Develop systems and organise regular editorial and management meetings with our Algerian partners to guarantee that resources are being strategically allocated, scheduled, and shared between different teams within Media Action and with the Algeria partners.
- Support the Projects Manager in the relationships with projects donors, and support the production of donor reports as required.
- To contribute to the development and implementation of Media Action’s projects are delivered in consultation with BBC Media Action and partners and key local stakeholders.
- Help produce narrative and financial reports for donor(s) and internal audiences using agreed templates as required.
- Help prepare regular reforecasts of project(s)’ budget (s) and activity plan(s), working with local and headquarters finance teams as required.
