Job Purpose:

Reporting to North Africa Country Director, the Research Manager will lead the in-country North Africa research team in Tunis to design and pilot research instruments, conduct qualitative research fieldwork, analyse quantitative and qualitative data, interpret findings, and present research results.

Main Duties:

  • Deliver high-quality research, with technical support and direction from the Research and Learning Team in London.
  • Design, and support others to design, robust research plans and qualitative research instruments.
  • Undertake qualitative research data collection, for instance focus group discussions and in depth interviews with training participants and key stakeholders.
  • Undertake, and support others to undertake qualitative data analysis, ensuring that the interpretation supports development of project activities such as training and TV and online media outputs.
  • Undertake analysis of quantitative monitoring data.
  • Write research reports, presentations and other dissemination products in a range of formats to fulfil the requirements of audiences including media creative and production teams, donors and the communication for development/media development communities.
  • Engage proactively and collaboratively with non-research staff in Tunis and London to support the development and use of research in the production of BBC Media Action’s creative outputs.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • At least four years professional experience in market or social research in a developmental or research organisation. [Required ]
  • A minimum bachelor degree in social science or other relevant discipline. Master’s degree an asset. [Required ]
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills, communicating complex technical ideas using non-technical language to a wide range of audiences from journalists, production staff and development practitioners. [Required ]
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to plan and conduct work with minimal supervision. [Required ]
  • Good time management skills, with a track record of delivering research findings to deadline. [Required ]
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills, Ability to communicate and conduct business at all levels from grassroots to the highest levels of governments and media. [Required ]
  • Willingness to travel within the country. [Required ]
  • Commitment to the aims and objectives of BBC Media Action. [Required ]
  • Fluent in Arabic and English. French desirable. [Required ]
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel and PowerPoint. [Required ]
  • Experience in designing and conducting qualitative research methodologies. [Required ]
  • Understanding of the role of media and communications in development. [Desirable]
  • Familiarity with international development issues relating to media, health, governance or resilience. [Desirable]
  • Experience of quantitative research methodologies and analysis. [Desirable]
  • Familiarity with qualitative analysis software (Nvivo, Atlas). [Desirable]
  • Previous experience of managing research and fieldwork staff. [Desirable]
