Job Title: MENA Fellow
Starting Date: January, May or September 2016
The Atlas Corps Fellowship: MENA Entrepreneurship Initiative (MENA Fellowship) will bring a minimum of 15 emerging business leaders from the Middle East and North Africa to serve in 12-month professional placements at “businesses” in the United States— including leading corporations, private companies, b-corps, organizations that promote entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial ventures and social entrepreneurial enterprises. The MENA Fellowship seeks to build stronger, more positive ties between business professionals in MENA and the United States, as well as strengthen civil society by stimulating economic advancement through the capacity building, development, and networking of business professionals across borders. This project counters violent extremism by empowering emerging business leaders from the MENA region to develop activities to promote thriving local economies in the region. To supplement the professional placement at business, Fellows will participate in a management training series provided through collaboration between Atlas Corps, Deloitte, and Georgetown University.
The MENA Fellows will join the growing Atlas Corps network, which includes 500 professionals in the United States and Colombia from 76 countries—including 8 Fellows from the MENA region. This network represents every major religion, five continents, and numerous racial and ethnic backgrounds. Our records indicate that 97% of Atlas Corps Alumni return home where they implement effective practices learned, which helps to strengthen their home communities. Fellows increase their business acumen through hands-on experience while developing invaluable person-to-person connections to learn effective business practices that can be applied in their home region to stimulate much needed economic development.
*Although we are seeking individuals with a business background for the MENA Fellowship, ALL qualified applicants are invited to apply for Atlas Corps as you may be under consideration for our classic Fellowship or other special initiatives.
We consider applications on a rolling basis. You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to be considered for one of our classes that begins in January, May, or September. Final decisions are made 4 -8 weeks before the class begins. For example, the January class decisions are made in November; May class decisions will be made in March; September class decisions will be made in July. You may reapply to our program, but you should only apply once a year, unless there is a dramatic change in your application, such as completing graduate school, winning an award, etc. Strong applications are considered for multiple classes unless the candidate withdraws their application. If you ever decide to withdraw your application from consideration, please email apply@atlascorps.org. Due to the fast-moving nature of our selection process, we encourage applicants to check their email frequently for updates; otherwise they risk missing critical information or deadlines. If you are accepted to the Fellowship, there may be a quick turnaround time between your acceptance and the beginning of the Fellowship. Start dates are not flexible, and assuming your visa is approved, you must begin your Fellowship with the class to which you are accepted.
The application process is a four-month cycle that repeats itself. You may apply at any time and be considered, but we encourage you to spend some time on your application, including having it be reviewed by a peer, and then submit it as early as possible and not wait for any deadlines. Here is the approximate annual calendar:
