Job title: Assistant Project Manager

Based in: Tunis, Tunisia

Contract type: Full-time fixed contract for 1 year ( with a possibility of extension depending on funding)

Job purpose:

To work together with the North Africa Project Management Team to implement one or multiple projects, deliver expected outcomes and meet stakeholder expectations within the brief and constraints of time, cost, scope and quality; and to use appropriate approaches and techniques for the project and domain.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Support North Africa Project Management Team in the management of one or more projects.

Is assigned to smaller projects and/or may report to a more senior project manager on larger projects.

Approach and planning

  • Help the programme/project lead articulate the Theory of Change and the outcomes, outputs and impact to be achieved by the project.
  • Support the production of a project management plan[1] (PMP) or equivalent document to get agreement with stakeholders for the purpose, nature and scope of the project and secure the mandate to proceed into shaping the project.
  • Draw on own experience and desk research, seek out relevant lessons learnt from other projects and share these with the project lead, to facilitate efficient delivery of projects.
  • Participate in reviews/retrospectives and put in place the lessons.

Delivery

  • Provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the North Africa Project Management Team, including the organisation of meetings, arrangement of travel and filing of all project and compliance documentation as required.
  • Identify, track and manage progress and challenges, and effectively communicate these with the Project Management and Production Teams.
  • Contribute to regular reporting of progress to donors and other stakeholders.
  • Support the North Africa Project Management Team in ensuring that all expenditure (or activity) is accounted for and reconciled to budget/plan. This includes: the preparation, collection and transfer of advances, aiding staff in the preparation and coding of expense claims, monitoring advances reports, and other tasks as required.
  • Support the North Africa Project Management Team in ensuring adherence to relevant BBC policies and standards. Including project management, health and safety, financial, legal, technology and other compliance requirements.
  • Ad hoc English and Arabic and/or French translation tasks as required.

Business Development

  • Contribute to the identification of new funding opportunities and support the North Africa Project Management Team in writing proposals for new funding

Stakeholders, Change, and Communication

  • Work with stakeholders to establish scope, critical success factors, deliverables, outcomes and benefits.
  • Support the planning and managing of stakeholder communication to achieve engagement.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders, foster innovation and effective working and address issues.

Research

  • Support the North Africa Project Management Team and London Research Team with the design and implementation of research activities, including formative research and evaluation of impact of projects.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Some experience successfully supporting project management in an international development context.
  • Working knowledge of the project lifecycle, techniques and methodologies for project management.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills; ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and respond flexibly to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Understanding of, and ability to utilise, good practice in relevant aspects of project management, including the drivers of success and sources of risk for the project domain.
  • Good and well-practiced communication in English and Arabic (spoken, written, listening), inter-personal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to effectively deal with a range of stakeholders, navigate changeable environments and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Solid Microsoft Office skills and experience manipulating data to make it meaningful for different audiences.
  • Demonstrable interest in the use of media for development purposes. (desirable)
  • Understanding of media landscape and development issues in North Africa. (desirable)
  • Good mastery of French (spoken, written, listening). (desirable)
  • Experience in conducting research and MEAL activities in development settings. (desirable)
