Determined to eliminate injustice and promote equality, Amnesty International is at the forefront of human rights advocacy. But to maximise awareness on a global level, we need to maintain a single and consistent voice. By co-ordinating translation requests across the Middle East and North Africa region and providing some translations, you’ll help us share vital information. Based in Beirut, and working as part of an integrated international team, you’ll have real scope for creative input at a local level.

About the role

This is a new role resulting from decentralisation of our translation and production services. Working as part of an integrated international team, you’ll have real scope for creative input at a local level. In particular, you will assess how to adapt content both visually and verbally for a regional audience. Handling translation requests, mostly for Middle East and North Africa languages, you’ll work with a team of in-house translators, as well as third-party suppliers (free-lance translators and providers of services such as typesetting, production, etc). You will also co-ordinate the production of related materials such as reports and leaflets.

About you

As this is a co-ordination and translation role, you will need to be a native Arabic speaker and be fluent in English (the principle source language). You’ll enjoy being part of a distributed team. You will have experience translating from English to Modern Standard Arabic, preferably in a human rights or civil society language context. You will be responsible for uploading content to the Amnesty International website and will feel comfortable with technical tasks in this area. You’ll be used to working with printers and other creative services, while editorial experience would be a plus- in particular collaborating with designers on visual adaptations. You’re likely to have experience of working in the Middle East and North Africa, and will be confident about building good working relationships with local suppliers.

About us

Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, freedom and truth wherever they’re denied. And whether we’re applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we’re all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.

Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all.

Our supporters are outraged by human rights abuses but inspired by hope for a better world – so we work to improve human rights through campaigning and international solidarity.

We reach almost every country in the world and have:
· more than 2 million members and supporters who drive forward our fight for rights
· more than 5 million activists who strengthen our calls for justice

You can help make a real difference by becoming a member or supporter of Amnesty International.
