POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Accountant is responsible for processing Amideast/Tunisia financial transactions on a wide range of expense activities, including resolution of issues related to Regional Finance/Headquarters standards of those activities. Backstopping the AR Officer in their absence and providing a variety of accounting support tasks as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare vouchers and make entries into the Deltek Costpoint accounting system
  • Process daily incoming disbursement requests for multiple organizations including reviewing for appropriate documentation, signatures and coding
  • Responsible for field office accounting entries throughout the month and during the monthly closing process and reconciliation activities, in accordance with HQ standardized processes
  • Monthly follow up on the teachers’ timesheets/rates/invoices and payments
  • Record journal entries on the accounting system
  • Prepare the monthly and the annual tax declaration
  • Responsible for managing accounts payable functions, ensuring compliance with disbursement controls coordinating payments with the finance officer, and reviewing invoices for proper documentation and approval, while addressing month-end inquiries and clearing outstanding items
  • Prepare account receivable sales orders and issue invoices into the Deltek Costpoint accounting system
  • Coordinate with the Finance Manager to collect unpaid invoices
  • Recognize and communicate unusual transactions to Finance Manager
  • Count the books monthly & proceed to record book movement Prepare tax certificates and other financial documentation
  • Coordinate with the Finance Manager and provide back up for annual audits
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
  • Manage the AP scanning and archiving
  • Maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships
  • Complete any other tasks assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required:

  • Good knowledge of accounting standards and practices normally acquired
  • Good knowledge of local tax legislation
  • At least one year of finance or accounting professional experiencePreferred
  • License or BTS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Ability to prioritize and self-direct
  • Ability to learn and use specific accounting software and related modules
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, bookkeeping staff and auditors
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English, as well as French and Arabic
  • Team player with good communications skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent in this position will work in a professional office environment and will utilize the following equipment when working from the corporate office or remote home office (either on a temporary or hybrid basis).

  • Computer
  • Printer/Photocopier/Scanner/Fax
