Position Summary:

 

AMIDEAST is a private non-profit, non-governmental organization that serves Tunisia through four offices in Tunis, Lac II, Sousse and Monastir that offer a variety of educational and training services for students of all ages, professionals, corporate clients, and governmental agencies. Services include English language and professional skills training, testing and test preparation, scholarship and exchange program administration, as well as a portfolio of US government grants.

 

The Accountant is responsible for processing AMIDEAST Tunisia financial transactions on a wide range of expense activities, including resolution of issues related to Regional Finance/ Headquarter standards of those activities. Backstopping the AR officer in their absence, and providing a variety of accounting support tasks as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Accountant include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages accounts payable functions including execute organizational disbursement controls, ensure timely payments to all vendors and employees, and ensure timely responses to all inquirers from internal and external vendors.
  • Prepare vouchers and make entries into the Deltek Costpoint accounting system.
  • Process daily incoming disbursement requests for multiple organizations including reviewing for appropriate documentation, signatures and coding.
  • Responsible for field office accounting entries throughout the month and during the monthly closing process and reconciliation activities, in accordance with HQ standardized processes
  • Follow up on the grants expenses planning with the appropriate grant manager.
  • Monthly follow up on the teachers Timesheets/ rates /invoices and payments with HR
  • Processing and recording employees’ salaries and work on any variance with HR manager and Regional teams.
  • Coordinate with regional finance team on rent and insurance amortization
  • Prepare the monthly and the annual tax declaration,
  • Furnish financial information for Social Security declaration and annual tax declaration,
  • Ensure monthly balance sheets accounts reconciliation is done properly
  • Coordinate and provide back up for annual audits
  • Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions
  • Ensure Accounts Payable Policies and Procedures are followed
  • Resolve month end inquiries including cleaning up outstanding open liabilities
  • Review all invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment.
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial reports and statistical analysis.
  • Recognize and communicate unusual transactions to Finance Manager.
  • Prepare tax certificates and other financial documentation
  • Maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting
  • Good Knowledge of Accounting standards and practices normally acquired (US GAAP/IFRS)
  • Minimum of three years' financial management experience in a similar position
  • Good knowledge of local tax legislation
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking ability, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with good knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to prioritize and self-direct
  • Ability to learn and use specific accounting software and related modules
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, bookkeeping staff and auditors.
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English, as well as French and Arabic
  • Requires a high level of confidentiality. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Team player with good communications skills.
