DIGNITY- Danish Institute Against Torture is seeking two experienced project officers with solid experience  in project coordination and management, human rights, advocacy and capacity building sector in a  development context for our country office in Tunis, Tunisia. 

About DIGNITY 

DIGNITY is an independent nongovernmental anti-torture organization founded in 1982 in Denmark.  DIGNITY is present in more than 20 partner countries with forty years of experience in the rehabilitation  of survivors of torture and organized violence, in the prevention of torture and in the prevention of  urban violence. 

In January 2012, DIGNITY opened an office in Tunisia to manage and implement an extensive development programme for Tunisian State stakeholders (Ministry of Justice and Civil Society) through  cooperation partnerships comprising 3 axes: prevention of torture; rehabilitation and access to justice;  and prevention of urban violence. These partnerships include engagement with civil society on the  rehabilitation of torture, monitoring of places of detention, the identification of victims of torture and  the documentation of torture, as well as with the Ministry of Justice on strengthening the capacity of the  judiciary specifically in the issue of custody. 

As a Project Officer your primary duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Assuring implementation of project activities to achieve project results: Manage and oversee all aspects of project planning, development and implementation for a range of projects, including developing project plans, managing budgets, meeting reporting requirements, and supporting  project-related activities, to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality  standards and within agreed scope in line with DIGNITY’s established project management  methodology; coordinating with colleagues at headquarters to prepare activities.  
  • Monitoring project performance to meet project aims: Monitor project implementation progress and  identify and address implementation challenges in collaboration with country and headquarter staff. Building partnerships to support successful execution of the project: Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to engage stakeholders and ensure project deliverables are met; provide advice and information to  stakeholders on emerging project issues and to support project development and delivery in line  with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy objectives and other project and priorities. Facilitating knowledge management and sharing: Undertake research and formulate  recommendations to support evidence-based project planning and decision making; assess needs in  the field of prevention of torture in Tunisia and develop concept notes responding to findings of  conducted assessments;  
  • Other tasks to be assigned by the Country Director. 

  

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate has:  

  • A Master’s degree in international human rights, social work, international affairs, sociology, or any related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of Tunisian civil society, as well as the political and human rights context Strong experience in project management, from design to evaluation (including experience  working with theories of change, logical frameworks, budgets, etc.); sound knowledge of project  management tools and utilizes these regularly in work and assignments. 
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills and attention to detail: Strong ability to organize and accurately complete multiple tasks by establishing priorities while taking into consideration special assignments, frequent interruptions, competing deadlines and multiple  reporting relationships.  
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of multiple project partners.
  • Experience in communicating with a wide range of actors, including lawmakers and policymakers, criminal justice administrators and civil society. ‘’’
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Fluency in Arabic AND French AND/OR English.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and use of internet.
  • Experience in working for international organisations on development.

  

Location 

The position is based in DIGNITY’s Tunis, Tunisia office and may involve infrequent travel in the region. Salary 

DIGNITY guarantees a competitive salary, commensurate on seniority and experience, comparable to  what is offered for similar positions in international NGOs in Tunisia.
