On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November 2020) and with the support of DG NEAR and the EU Delegations in the Southern Neighbourhood, the regional communication project EU Neighbours South is organizing a webinar to take a stand against all forms of gender-based violence and particularly the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
Recall that Violence negatively affects women’s general well-being and prevents them from fully participating in their families, their community and the country at large. It is therefore considered as a grave violation of human rights and for this very reason it is placed at a high level in the EU and UN agendas.
For years, the EU has mobilized funds for initiatives, programmes, civil society and women’s movements to advocate, prevent, protect and support women victims of violence not only in Europe but also in the Southern partner countries. However all these efforts remain insufficient to put an end to gender-based violence, particularly during humanitarian crises, incl. conflicts, natural disasters, or the current Covid-19 health crisis which has shown that all types of violence, and particularly domestic violence, have intensified.
The webinar will shed light on EU-funded programmes and initiatives by featuring not only their actions on the ground from different perspectives but also their results at national level and across national boundaries, as well as the challenges to put forward gender equality as core value in the mindsets of the people and communities.

بمناسبة اليوم الدولي للقضاء على العنف ضد المرأة (25 نوفمبر 2020) وبدعم من المديرية العامة لمفاوضات الجوار والتوسع ووفود الاتحاد الأوروبي في الجوار الجنوبي ، ينظم المشروع الإقليمي EU Neighbours South ندوة عبر الإنترنت لاتخاذ موقف ضد جميع أشكال العنف القائم على النوع الاجتماعي وخاصة العنف ضد النساء والفتيات (VAWG). إن العنف يؤثر سلبًا على حياة المرأة ويمنعها من المشاركة الفعالة في بناء أسرتها ومجتمعها المحلي والبلد ككل لذلك يعتبر انتهاكًا خطيرًا لحقوق الإنسان ولهذا السبب بالذات يتم وضعه على مستوى عالٍ في جداول أعمال الاتحاد الأوروبي والأمم المتحدة. لسنوات عدة، حشد الاتحاد الأوروبي الأموال للمبادرات والبرامج والمجتمع المدني والحركات النسائية لمناصرة النساء ضحايا العنف ومنعهن وحمايتهن ودعمهن ليس فقط في أوروبا ولكن أيضًا في البلدان الشريكة الجنوبية. ومع ذلك ، تظل كل هذه الجهود غير كافية لوضع حد للعنف القائم على النوع الاجتماعي ، ولا سيما أثناء الأزمات الإنسانية ، بما في ذلك النزاعات أو الكوارث الطبيعية أو الأزمة الصحية الحالية لـكوفيد 19 والتي كانت سبباً لتفاقم جميع أنواع العنف، وخاصة العنف المنزلي. ستسلط الندوة الإفتراضية الضوء على البرامج التي يمولها الاتحاد الأوروبي من خلال إبراز نشاطاتهم على أرض الواقع و كذلك أيضًا نتائجهم على المستوى الوطني والإقليمي ، بالإضافة إلى التحديات التي تواجه طرح المساواة بين الجنسين كقيمة أساسية في عقليات الناس والمجتمعات.
