Association Bizerte cinéma

Founded in 2012, following the closure of Bizerte’s last four cinemas, the Bizerte Cinéma Association (ABC) emerged as a response to the disappearance of cinema venues in the region.

Since its establishment, the association has been committed to reviving cinema in Bizerte through a variety of activities throughout the year, including its film club and other events dedicated to the seventh art. Since 2012, the association has also organised the Rencontres Cinématographiques de Bizerte Bizerte Cinema Encounters, a film festival that forms part of its ongoing efforts to promote film culture and strengthen the presence of cinema in the region.

Main Objectives

🎞️Promoting Film Culture: To foster cinematic awareness through alternative and independent screenings, particularly films that rarely find their way into conventional commercial distribution circuits, as well as multidisciplinary film education through workshops, training programmes, and open discussions.

🎞️Decentralising Cultural Activities: To bring screenings and discussions to the different delegations of the Bizerte governorate, promoting cultural equity and supporting the development of the region’s cinematic infrastructure.

🎞️Supporting National Liberation Causes: To embrace cinema as a form of resistance and a means of defending rights, freedoms, and humanity, while raising public awareness of issues that risk being overlooked amid unfolding events, geographical distances, and a lack of attention or understanding.

Cinema offers a way to share perspectives and engage with cinematic expressions from diverse cultures, fostering cultural, human rights, and humanist awareness that challenges preconceived narratives and encourages continuous questioning through images, sound, and film.
