Search in Tunisia

Search’s mission in Tunisia is to promote a culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search- Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) promoting peace education; (ii) fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (iv) transforming violent extremism. Project Summary

Search for Common Ground – Tunisia (Search) is currently recruiting for the position of Vulnerability Scan and Mitigation Assistant for the USAID-funded Ma3an program, implemented in partnership with FHI360. Ma3an aims to increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability. Together with USAID-Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Key Responsibilities

The Vulnerability Scan and Mitigation Assistant will support the Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager and the Vulnerability Scan and Conflict Sensitivity Manager in conducting Vulnerability Scans in different Tunisian communities and multi-stakeholder dialogue sessions aimed at identifying through a participatory approach appropriate vulnerability mitigation activities.

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Vulnerability Scans:

  • Assist in preparing information and research materials;
  • Research and gather documentation on social, economic, and political vulnerabilities in Ma3an target communities;
  • Assist in conducting focus groups and key informant interviews for Vulnerability Scans in different Ma3an target communities;
  • Assist in conducting survey questionnaires and supervising local data collectors for Vulnerability Scans in different Ma3an target communities;
  • Assist in transcribing and editing records of focus groups and key informant interviews for Vulnerability Scans;
  • Support the logistic organization and planning of workshops aimed at validating Vulnerability Scan findings with target communities.

Vulnerabilities Mitigation:

  • Assist the Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager and Vulnerabilities Mitigation Officer in ensuring the technical quality of Vulnerability Mitigation activities, including those not directly implemented by the Vulnerabilities Mitigation unit;
  • Provide logistical and administrative support in the organization and facilitation of dialogue sessions, roundtables, and workshops with community stakeholders aimed at identifying key vulnerability priorities and vulnerability mitigation activities;
  • Liaise and communicate with project consultants, vendors and local partners;
  • Conduct research and provide support to one or more staff members in regards to project and programmatic efforts;
  • Assist in drafting reports of dialogue sessions, roundtables, and workshops held under the Vulnerabilities Mitigation component;
  • Support the Vulnerability Mitigation team in the analysis of Vulnerability Scan results;
  • Coordinate activities between the Vulnerability Scan and Mitigation teams and other teams as needed and update the work plan accordingly.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration:

full-time position for 12 months, extendable for up to 3 years starting as soon as possible.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • An undergraduate degree in sociology, psychology, political sciences, international relations, international development, or a related field; Master's Degree preferred;
  • Previous experience in qualitative and/or quantitative data collection and analysis would be an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic;
  • Experience in the logistic organization of events and in procurement processes;
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative social research methods would be an asset;
  • Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature;
  • Ability to travel to different regions inside the country;
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of people and stakeholders;
  • Ability to organize own work with minimum supervision;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Flexible attitude towards work;
  • Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.
