Search in Tunisia

Search’s mission in Tunisia is to promote a culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search- Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance, and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia. We are searching for…

Search is currently recruiting for the position of Vulnerabilities Mitigation Technical Officer for the USAID-funded Ma3an program, which Search is implementing in partnership with FHI360. The Ma3an program will increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improved the capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Your contribution

The Vulnerabilities Mitigation Technical Officer will serve as a member of the Search-Ma3an technical team and be directly managed by Search, reporting on technical programmatic deliverables to the Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager. The Vulnerabilities Mitigation Technical Officer will work with the Vulnerabilities
Mitigation Manager to ensure that community-level activities address identified vulnerabilities. S/he will work with the Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager to engage Tunisian communities in a dialogue process that will lead to the identification of key vulnerability mitigation activities, which will be implemented with the support of the Ma3an Regional Program Managers and Grant Officers.

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager to ensure the technical quality of vulnerability mitigation activities, including those not directly implemented by the Vulnerability Mitigation unit;
  • Support the Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager in the organization and facilitation of dialogue sessions, roundtables, and workshops with community stakeholders aimed at identifying key vulnerability priorities and vulnerability mitigation activities;
  • Assist in drafting reports of dialogue sessions, roundtables, and workshops held under the Vulnerabilities Mitigation component;
  • Develop and update the technical calendar of the Mitigation Planning for Resilient Communities process, including follow-on activities;
  • Support the Vulnerabilities Mitigation Manager in conducting technical research and improvement of methodologies as needed;
  • Support the Vulnerability Scan team in the analysis of Vulnerability Scan results;
  • Coordinate activities between the Vulnerability team and other teams as needed and update the work plan accordingly.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration:

initial 12-month contract (CDD), extendable for up to 3 years, with start date as soon as possible.

Critères d'éligibilité

  • BS/BA or its international equivalent in International Relations, Human & Social Sciences, or a related field; Master's Degree preferred;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ professional experience with at least 1 year in a technical role on donor-funded programs related to conflict mitigation, PVE/CVE, community development, youth engagement, local governance, or civil society strengthening projects;
  • Experience with USAID rules and regulations and experience working in an international NGO environment highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with conflict mitigation approaches;
  • Strong understanding of the political and social context in Tunisia;
  • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic, and very good working knowledge of English (preferred) and/or French
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in PVE, peacebuilding, and conflict transformation;
  • Excellent coordination, communication (verbal and written) and networking skills;
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often challenging environment with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail, and coordinate and compile information from various sources;
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Flexibility and capacity to adapt to evolving contexts;
  • Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way.
