Search in Tunisia

Search for Common Ground’s mission in Tunisia is to promote the culture of dialogue and diversity through the involvement of all parts of society while building their capacities. Search works in Tunisia to help members of Tunisian society to address conflicts and differences constructively through cooperation and dialogue. Search-Tunisia works across multiple channels, mainly with youth, CSOs, media actors, security forces, and local authorities to build the capacity of individuals and institutions to address challenges including differences and acting on common points. Through this approach and partnerships, Search-Tunisia has four main strategic objectives: (i) Promoting Peace Education; (ii) Fostering non-violent social dialogue; (iii) Enhancing participatory and inclusive governance; and (vi) Transforming Violent Extremism in Tunisia. We are searching for…

SFCG is currently recruiting for the position of a Senior Psychologist for the USAID-funded Ma3an program. The Ma3an program aims to increase the capacity of communities to withstand political, social, and economic stresses and shocks by achieving the objectives of: 1) strengthened community resilience, 2) mitigated community vulnerabilities, and 3) improve the capacity of Tunisian partners to sustain and replicate the model. Ma3an will spur 30 of Tunisia’s most vulnerable communities to action and generate sustainable resources for development in areas that are vulnerable to instability. Together with USAID/Tunisia’s programs in accountability, decentralization, and youth entrepreneurship (i.e., TADAEEM and Mashrou3i), Ma3an will consolidate democratic progress while fostering social cohesion in target areas.

Your contribution

The senior psychologist will serve as a member of the Ma3an technical team and will work with the Senior Technical Advisor, the School-Based Youth Engagement Advisor and the other members of the Education team. S/he will participate in the development of tools and activities aimed at building the capacity of the Bureaux d’Accompagnement and other local service providers to engage and mentor at-risk youth.

The roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the Ma3an education team to support the development of early risk detection tools and a guide on at-risk youth engagement techniques and methodologies for the use of Bureaux d’Accompagnement staff and other local service providers.
  • Contribute to the training of teachers, school administrators and Bureaux staff, and other local service providers on the use of the detection tools and the guide.
  • Providing high level technical expertise to all work being performed under the component of identification and support to at-risk-youth of the Ma3an project and ensuring all approaches, tools and methodologies are up the highest quality standards and reflect latest international practices in this field.
  • Ensure that tools and materials developed are based on evidence and lessons learned from tested scientific approaches and methodologies for at-risk youth engagement across the world.
  • Contribute to the development of tools and methodologies to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the developed tools/guide/activities.
  • Contribute to the development of Mentoring tools.
  • Contribute to the development of the Evaluation tools.
  • Participate and provide expert technical inputs in all consultations, workshops and meetings with governmental counterparts related to this work component
  • Conduct technical research and improvement of methodologies as needed to ensure continuous mentoring of trained school staff and other local service providers and maximize the guide’s effectiveness.
  • Work with the School-Based Youth Engagement Advisor, Technical Officer, Search-Tunisia DM&E team, the Ma3an Senior Technical Advisor and the Search-Ma3an Team Leader.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

Duration: initial 12-month contract (CDD), extendable, with start date mid-June

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Master’s degree (doctoral degree preferred) in Child/Youth Psychology, Sociology, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 10 years professional experience with a focus on child/youth psychology and/or working with CSOs in at risk youth engagement.
  • Vast experience working with at-risk youth, either from a clinical, research and/or social work perspective
  • Strong knowledge of methodologies and techniques to work with at-risk youth within and outside the school environment.
  • Knowledge of the Tunisian context, or prior experience working in other MENA countries, would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in an international NGO environment highly desirable;
  • Good organizational and reporting skills
  • Good coordination, communication (verbal and written).
  • Team spirit and ability to collaborate with colleagues in an open and constructive way.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, often challenging environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work through stringent deadlines with attention to detail, and coordinate and compile information from various sources.
  • Fluent in written and oral Arabic and English. French would be a plus.
