Background:

The International Republican Institute (IRI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, organization dedicated to advancing freedom and democracy worldwide.  Since 1983, IRI has worked to develop democratic institutions and ideals, carrying out a variety of international programs to promote freedom, self-government and the rule of law worldwide.  IRI provides technical assistance in the areas of political party strengthening, developing civic institutions and open elections, promoting democratic governance and advancing the rule of law.

IRI has been operating in Tunisia since 2011 in variety of capacities including development of political parties, civic and voter education, improvements in communications; development of civil society and support for good governance in ministries.  IRI seeks to hire a qualified persons for the  position of:   Program Coordinator.

PURPOSE:

Design, plan and manageevents and logistics for Tunisia programs; translate written Arabic and/or French documents into English; liaise with program partners; provide interpretation during program activities; report program activities to IRI staff; collect and report monitoring and evaluation data on programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Design, plan and/or facilitate trainings and events on decentralization, communications and other democratic governance related topics for political parties, members of parliament, civil society and national government members
  • Translate Arabic/French documents into English
  • Liaise with IRI partners in civil society, political parties and national government to arrange program activities and ensure their participation
  • Arrange logistics for Tunisia program activities, including all logistics for organizing trainings, seminars and conferences; reconcile expenses from training events.
  • Provide or make arrangements for interpretation for program trainings as needed
  • Draft correspondence in Arabic and French
  • Monitor and observe political events and related activities and provide issue-specific reporting (media monitoring).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  • Coordinate activities
  • Draft reports related to the program and operational matters in either Arabic, French or English as needed
  • Liaise with partners and organizations
  • Follow-up closely on progress of activities, outstanding issues and ensure timely and smooth implementation of the projects related to the office
  • Provide translation during events and of documents as needed
  • Undertake programming and technical support to ongoing projects /programs
  • Ensure full compliance with IRI procedures and rules
  • Be available for weekend workshops
  • Perform any other tasks required by Supervisor

Critères d'éligibilité

  • BA in social sciences, public law, political sciences or related fields.
  • 1-4 years of work experience with a CSO, International NGO, government or related governance organization
  • Knowledge of good governance, civic and voter education, role of civil society and decentralization
  • Proficient in speaking and writing English, Arabic and French
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suites
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to work in a team
  • Non-partisan
  • Experience working with government and civil society
  • Familiarity with democratic governance principles and topics
  • Familiarity with Tunisian political context as it applies to decentralization and democratic governance
  • Self-starter
