Position: Arabic Editor

Location: Tunis, Tunisia

Starting Date: Immediately

Contract Duration: 1 year (3 months’ probation)

Salary: The remuneration will be commensurate with the experience of the applicant and competitive rates in NGOs

Position Description:

We are seeking an Arabic Editor to join the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS). The Arabic Editor will work within the Media & Communications Unit on promoting CIHRS work with target audiences in the MENA region. S/he will be responsible for ensuring all CIHRS publications in Arabic are of the highest quality linguistically and structurally and are in line with the overall objectives of the organization.

Post Description:

• Edit or rewrite to improve the quality of translated material.
• Ensuring the main message is communicated clearly and concisely and is consistent with the overall message of CIHRS.
• Ensure message consistency between the Arabic and English version of the same text if the original was written in English. This will require collaboration with the owner of the document and your direct manager and insert new alternations/additions.
• Work with all members of the editorial team (political, legal and media/messaging) to ensure that all the relevant concerns are taken on board and amended in the final substantive output.
• Create brief writing style guide to be communicated to staff to assist writing in a well-structured manner.
• Create CIHRS editorial style guide in line with the political message for each country of focus and the overall message of CIHRS.
• When applicable assist in recycling content from old publications for use on CIHRS digital media channels in line with evolving and breaking events.
• Assist in drafting press releases when there is staff shortage.
