About the role :

Amnesty International is establishing a Human Right Academy. We are piloting the Academy in the Middle East and North Africa region.

As part of the Regional Human Rights Education Team in MENA: you will be part of a dynamic team across locations to set up the MENA Human Rights Academy and other Human Rights Education initiatives. You will establish standard processes, provide assistance and support to ensure an effective implementation and rewarding learning experience.

JOB PURPOSE: Provide administrative and coordination support to the Regional MENA Human Rights Education Team and assist in logistical and coordination tasks for delivering Amnesty Human Rights Academy plan and other human rights education activities in MENA.

DEPARTMENT PURPOSE: The Regional HRE team provides quality action-oriented human rights education and training and contribute to visibility, presence and growth of Amnesty International and supporting the human rights movement in the MENA region.

INTERNATIONAL SECRETARIAT PURPOSE: The International Secretariat, which operates from a number of sites around the world, gathers and communicates accurate and action-oriented human rights information globally. We campaign for meaningful human rights change; enable effective human rights activism and work to persuade governments and other actors to uphold universal human rights standards. We provide strategic leadership, support and advice to the Amnesty International movement globally, fostering Amnesty International’s contribution, presence and public accountability throughout the world.

Working relationships :

  • Reporting to: Regional Human Rights Education Coordinator [BEIRUT] and matrix managed by Deputy Regional Director for Campaigns [TUNIS]

  • Other key relationships: Amnesty International – International Secretariat Regional Office staff particularly the Regional HRE team [BEIRUT], Deputy(ies), Content Manager and Finance Manager [TUNIS], Global HRE Programme, Sections in MENA, and local logistical support services.

Useful Information :

The role effectively supports the organisation of online and offline HRE activities and events. The role acts as a first point of contact for diverse target audiences (engaged by Amnesty Human Rights Academy) including Amnesty International Sections’ activists, International Members, HRDs and youth activists in MENA. The post holder must have an understanding of Amnesty International Human Rights Education and Training work particularly Amnesty Human Right Academy body of work in MENA, to enable her/him to support effectively.

Main responsibilities :

  • Provide targeted audience, in particular Academy platform learners with sufficient and prompt support directly or via agreed redirection channels.
  • Provide first point of contact and a professional welcome in particular for Amnesty Human Rights Academy online or offline communities ensuring clear communication and prompt response or routing queries to the appropriate destinations.
  • Provide administrative support to the Regional HRE team.
  • Facilitate the organisation of local and regional HRE meetings, online or offline events, including processing invoices/expenses, identifying venues and making logistic and travel arrangements and keeping minutes and reporting where needed.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information where necessary and ensuring adherence to Amnesty Human Rights Academy data management and security guidelines.

General

  • Work will be carried out according to agreed Amnesty Human Rights Academy work plans and other HRE work, systems and quality standards, to enable the Regional HRE team to meet objectives.
  • Work interactively and proactively with the Regional HRE team and other teams at MENA Regional Offices and participate in regular staff meetings at the office and catch-up meetings with the Regional HRE team and global HRE Programme where appropriate.

What does success look like in this job ? 

  • The Regional HRE team is provided with adequate assistance and support in order to ensure effective implementation of Amnesty Human Rights Academy in MENA.
  • Timely, accurate and quality communication and support is provided to audience targeted by the Amnesty Human Rights Academy. Participants’ feedback regarding the administrative support when participating in HRE is positive.
  • The administrative aspect of the HRE work in MENA is covered by the Assistant and the post is well established as the first contact point for registering for Academy and other HRE offers from Amnesty/ IS in the region

Critères d'éligibilité

  • Passion and experience in accompanying participants/ learners (Customer relationship management) in their learning journey in Amnesty
  • Organising workshops, conferences and trainings (venue, visas, correspondence with participants…)
  • Familiar with working in or with different countries in the region
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining processes for course registration and certification
  • Ability to draft invitations, correspondence and other documents on behalf of line manager or director.
  • Experience of setting up and maintaining hard and soft information storage, retrieval and communication systems.
  • Good working knowledge of technology systems including Microsoft Outlook, Office packages, Excel and willingness to learn management of communications and information over other systems.
  • Experience in working remotely with people across different locations.
  • Good interpersonal, organisational, verbal and written communication skills including liaising with guests and senior colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in Arabic and English, French desirable – verbally and in writing, face to face, by email and over the telephone.
  • An understanding of, and a willingness to apply, the principals of AI’s Cultural Diversity and Equal Opportunities Policy is essential
  • Ability and willingness to work in a small team without direct supervision if required
  • Commitment to and awareness of AI human rights work.
